The last few months have been a busy time for C-OFOKLA. Here are a few of the activities we’ve been involved with.
FUN FOR ALL AT OUR ANNUAL WATER FESTIVAL
Our annual Water Festival enjoyed an excellent turnout as lake residents, family and friends shared a meal to the tunes of Colleen Kattau and Dos XX. Attendees had the difficult task of picking a winner from 15 End of Summer photo contest entries. Michael Brewster’s Cruise on Skaneatlas Lake” was crowned the winner. Be sure to check out all of the entries including the winner here.
TULLY LAKE GUIDED KAYAK/CANOE TOUR
On October 2nd, Tully Lake Property Owners Association President, Colleen Zawadzki hosted a guided kayak tour of Tully Lake. 15 folks from all around participated in this C-OFOKLA sponsored event. This was followed by a nicely attended fund-raising potluck brunch where proceeds went toward expenses for our Art and Ecology event.
BOAT LAUNCH STEWARD GRANT
C-OFOKLA was awarded $100,000 from the NYS DEC for a grant submitted with Cortland County Soil and Water and SUNY ESF, working with the Finger Lakes Institute. This grant will train Lake Stewards to educate people in our area about the “Clean Drain and Dry” initiative for boats entering our waterways aimed at prevening the spread of invasive species. This Boat Launch Steward program through NYS DEC began in June, 2016 and will continue for the next two years.
LAKE MANAGEMENT PLANNING
Eric Hanss, graduate student from from SUNY Oneonta will be conducting Watershed Management Planning for Tully, Crooked and Song Lakes. This two year program will develop a comprehensive analysis of all aspects of the watershed, lakes and run-off. Suggestions for improvement will be part of the process.
